Desire

A short and lonely man

blames height for lack of love.

A tall man

towering above,

feels distant from the rest.

A poor woman envies the wealth

of another,

while her brother,

much better off

wastes his health

ruminating on portfolios

and positions, each turn of the S&P

a mini lobotomy.

Lose weight, save money, get a degree.

Call now, we’ll double your order

for free.

The trap is so plain, but we step right up

and snatch the bait.

Envy, greed, and hate

are rusty chains that bind us,

blind us to our beauty.

It is our duty

to remember.

You are perfect, I know you don’t believe me,

but it’s true.

The only blockage stopping pure acceptance

is you.
